  STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE President Bola Tinubu and Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Tuesday in Beijing, China, announced the elevation of Nigeria-China ties to that of a comprehensive strategic partnership.  The leaders also agreed to build a high-level Nigeria-China community with a shared future.  This was the outcome of talks between the two leaders during President Tinubu’s official visit to China.   President Tinubu’s official visit precedes his participation in the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, scheduled to hold from September 4-6, 2024. Civilians are among the dozens of people killed in an attack by militants in Burkina Faso, local and security sources told AFP on Sunday. Jihadist rebels affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group have waged a grinding insurgency since 2015 in Burkina Faso that has killed thousands and displaced two million people. The latest attack was carried out by armed men in the village of Barsalogho in north-central Burkina Faso on Saturday, multiple sources said. Denouncing the “cowardly and barbaric attack”, Communications Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo said it was carried out by “hordes of criminals”. The assailants targeted “women, children, elderly, men, making no distinction”, Ouedraogo said on national television. H.R. McMaster, former national security adviser to former President Donald Trump, on Sunday said that Trump needs “a competent team around him” because he is susceptible to being manipulated. Speaking Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” McMaster said: “He can make really sound decisions and disrupt things that need to be disrupted in terms of foreign policy, national security, but oftentimes struggles to hang on to those decisions and see them through.” He added of the Republican presidential nominee: “People know kind of how to push his buttons, especially buttons associated with maintaining the complete support of his political base.” McMaster was appearing on the telecast to promote his new book, “At War With Ourselves: My Tour of Duty in the Trump White House.” He is a retired Army lieutenant general who served as Trump’s national security adviser from February 2017 to April 2018.
